Our amaryllis is blooming. It’s not really a sign of spring, but it’s pretty!imageThere’s flowers

Up On the Roof— May 30, 2014

We’ve been spending lots of time up on the roof again.

Today Barbara and Michele took pictures to show everyone what we’ve been up to.

image

The strawberries are growing.

image

Everyone is eating the chives again.

image

Peas are climbing the trellis with peppers in front of them, along with little pincushion zinnias.

image

We grew our brandywine heirloom tomatoes from seed.

image

Along with super beefsteak tomatoes, and several other varieties.

image

Staff person Kathy O’Brien brought in a pumpkin that she’s had hanging around since last year.

We buried in the garden and now we’re watching to see if  a new pumpkin plant will grow out of it.

image

Our pond is back! We hope to add fish next week if the water gets warmer.

image

We planted a salsa garden that contains tomatillos, peppers, tomatoes and cilantro.

Everything we need to make salsa!

image

The new knockout rose bush is settling in and getting ready to bloom soon.

Here’s the view across the roof today.

We still have seedlings to find spaces for!

There’s lots of work ahead for us!

Time to Weed and Plant Some Basil!

image

Today when we took the cover off of our cold frame we found lettuce, spinach, chamomile and lots of weeds!

image

John, Scott and Jay took the weeds out.

image

We started this basil downstairs under our lights a few weeks ago.

image

We thought we’d plant some of it under the cold frame to see if it will stay warm enough to grow.

image

We planted it where most of the weeds had been.

image

Then we watered it and put the cover back on.

Maybe we’ll make some pesto soon?

We’ve been learning a lot about how plants grow from seed here at Bass River.

There’s lots of seedlings started under our grow lights.

image

So far we’ve planted  painted daisies,

image

peppers,

image

cucumbers,

image

inpatients,

image

basil,

image

lots of tomatoes,

image

and marigolds.

Zinnias and other flowers will be on the way soon too.

Spring is a very busy time for the Bass River Gardeners!
